Layered Masking

I love this technique.  It is called Layered Masking.  Start by stamping an open background stamp in black ink like the words I have here on this example.  It is a retired CTMH stamp but D1477 Universal Backgrounds would work well for this technique. Then stamp a solid stamp image like this boy swinging from D1515 Play Time. 

I used my CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge to cut an oval and circle shapes. I use the oval window and the solid circle as my layered masks. Just glue one to the other. Use any shapes that work well with the stamped image you want to use. Oh, and save the circle window for latter use.   Here the circle will become the setting sun. I added Olive green with a sponge in a swiping motion where the grass would be.

Keeping the mask in place, I added Indian Corn Blue to the middle section and Gypsy to the top right hand corner in the same manner using a different sponge for each color in a swiping motion. These two colors give the sky a beautiful depth as the light is leaving the sky.

Remove the layered mask and you can see right where the sun will be.

Use the circle window that was cut earlier and place it right where the shape will be nested or even with a little of the blue showing so that there will be no white space between the two inked areas.

I added Sunflower ink over the entire window using a new sponge and swiping motion.

To create depth, I added a second darker color called Sunset.  I swiped the Sunset in a crescent shape along the bottom and right side to create the shadowing effect.

Now remove your mask and voi la!

in the mask contest.

Here was the table full of participents masks.

So many creative masks, so much fun.

Here is my entry. I used stamps from several sets.
I cut shapes from both the Artise and Art Philosophy
Cricut Cartridges.

I used Lagoon and Pacifica papers, inks, and reinkers.

I spritzed with reinkers and the Pearl Paint.

I cut three accent shapes from the silver glitter paper.

Lastly, I added plenty of clear sparkles.

I was suprised and pleased to win the most flamouent mask.

I came home with a display tray as a prize!

From convention!

It's always to exciting to come to convention. Meet up with old friends and make new ones.
Here is a sneak peak at the first new paper pack in the new fall idea book. It is called Laughing Lola:

Wow, another ScrapFest is over and I wanted to share the classes I offered.
It's A Guy Thing was a really fun LO to make.  I incorporated aluminum tape that is so popular these days as the base for my side bar and title on the left hand page.  I used the Cricut Artiste to make a border with the gears 4" tall and 9" long.  I tacked it to another piece of card stock that measured 4" x 9" and covered it with 3 strips of the aluminum tape.  I added several different shaped gears in a variety of the Later Sk8r paper to create a fast and fun LO.  I also added real aluminum washers from Lowes to add authenticity. 

My next LO Class, I used Chantilly paper and fabric.  some of my pictures are loading side ways for some reason. So, you will have to turn your heads or use your imaginations.

 The doily and flowers were cut using the Artiste cartridge.  The leaves are fabric and the button in the middle is from the Chantilly Assortmant.  I love the new Small Sparkles Clear Flourishes.

 Another doily and flower accent cut with the Artiste, pop doted, fouirished and fabric leaves added.

 

 Again, sorry for the side ways photo, I can't seem to fix it.  I sewed a strip of fabric 1" x 14" to create a ruffle that was glued down using liquid glass.  I then added the zip strip paper in the green and blue pattern and lastly the Zipper Lace with liquid glass again.

 My third LO class, I used For Always paper and again the Artiste cartridge to creat this fun Artisian style LO.  I stamped a background using the stamp set Distressed Backgounds with black ink.

Here is the Left hand page with layered hotair balloon, Eifel Tower, and layered dress form.  I added our black tulle for a skirt by sewing and gathering it.  I attached it with liquid glass and added a fabric belt and paper rolled red flower.

The title is layered with tulle and flower for accents.
This is the right page with clock and film strip and a touch of red in the rolled flower.

Celebrating our Super Heros

With Father's Day quickly approaching and around the corner is Fourth of July, here is some inspiration using CTMH's fabulous Superhero paper pack X7152B.  For the first LO called Super Hero, I used the Workshop on the Go LO pattern for Lucy on page 31 of our catalog.

 

I used Cork Shapes Z1719 (p. 129) and Dimensional Elements Stars Z1680 (p. 130) to create interest.  I covered some of the stars with card stock, cutting them out with our wonderful Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge Z1686 (p.13).  The stamp set I used on the stars is called Diverse Backgrounds D1508 and can be found on page 102 of the Idea Book. The Super banner is also cut using the Art Philosophy cartridge. 

The next LOs I made with the Superhero Paper pack, I used the Workshop on the Go LO pattern from the Victory kit X7150B (p.36). I love the epoxy and metal Comic Badge Buttons Z1688 (p. 128) that are made to match perfectly with our Superhero paper pack.  The title is made from the Dimensional Elements Monograms (p. 130).

The next set of OLs is called Vroom and Line 'em Up.  The paper pack is Cruisin' X7154B (p.60) and I used the Workshop on the Go Cruisin' Kit stamp set (p.61). 

The old fashioned car was stamped using generational stamping.  I stamped the darkest car twice (not too hard with our clear stamps) and then reinked to stamp the second car in line.  Then I stamped the car image without reinking 3 more times.  This leaves the impression that the car is moving.

I love the metallic stickers that coordinate with this paper pack called Cruisin' Complements Silver Foil Images X7154C (p.58).  This one is an old fashioned gas pump and one in the picture below is a license plate.  too bad you can't tell how shinny they are from the photos.

The Bottle Caps Z1691 (p.128) finish off the LO with a little spring, literally, I put one of our fabulous Adhesive Springs z1725 (p.123) under it to give the bottle cap some motion.  Too fun!

I am lovin' the Stella Paper Pack Z7147B (p.16) with it's bold colors and awesome Stella Complements Canvas Shapes Z7147C (p.16).  I used the Workshops on the Go Victory Kit LO G1035 (p.37) pattern again, as I had for the Super Hero LO above.  Just change the paper and the LO looks completely different.  Give the LO a 1/4 turn and it olooks completely different again.  I love these instruction guides that come with the Workshops on the Go Kits.  I distressed direct to paper all my papers and canvas stickers using a Cocoa Z2114 (p. 8) ink pad.
